Abstract
This article discusses the topic of checking assumptions related to statistical tests. Some authors claim that checking assumptions is unnecessary because effects of violating those assump- tions are negligible. In this article, I present several simulations which demonstrate the importance of checking assumptions. I argue that checking assumptions is important to prevent drawing flawed in- terpretations and conclusions. Checking assumptions also provide additional information which can enrich understanding and discussion of research findings.
