OUTCAST SEEKS HONOR: SEBUAH AUTOBIOGRAFI TENTANG SEORANG GAMER YANG MENEMUKAN DIRINYA
Abstract
Abstrak: Ketika kita mendengar kata gamer, apa yang seketika terlintas di pikiran? Seorang pecandu game, pemalas, dan anti-sosial. Benarkah penilaian tersebut? Tentu tidak, banyak hal positif yang belum diketahui oleh masyarakat. Seperti yang aku alami, selama bermain game aku mendapat hal positif. Subjek penelitian ini adalah peneliti sendiri. Peneliti mengumpulkan data dari ingatan, foto, musik, video, yang membantu peneliti untuk mengingat masa tertentu, dan juga melakukan wawancara pada orang tua. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menggambarkan bagaimana game online membantuku hidup, dan memaknai hidupku. Karena saat kecil aku selalu terbebani oleh masalah yang kuhadapi. Masalah yang muncul mulai dari keluarga dan keluarga besarku yang selalu membedakan antara aku dan kakak laki-lakiku. Kemudian adanya bullying ketika aku SMPSMA, karena masalah etnis dan agama. Terakhir bullying yang terjadi di gereja. Hasil penelitian ini adalah game online membantuku mengatasi masalah yang aku hadapi. Aku bisa mendapat banyak teman dari game online yang tidak aku dapatkan di sekolah. Aku mendapat kepuasan terhadap diriku. Aku yang dulu merasa tidak berharga karena selalu dikucilkan, kini bisa mendapat kepercayaan diriku kembali.

Abstract: What do you have in mind when it comes to gamer? A slacker and anti-social game addict. But is it true? Apparently not. Many positive things remain unknown to people. As in my experience, I gain these positive things through gaming. In fact. This study use qualitative autobiographical method. The subject of this research is the writer himself. Data are collected from memories, photos, music, videos, and interviews (to parent) that help researcher remember any details written in the paper. This study aim to portray how online game helps me live and gives life a meaning despite all the problems that bother me throughout life. Problems arise from my immediate and extended family that tends to compare me and my older brother, then bullying that I went through during junior high and senior high out of ethnicity and religious belief issues, and last, bullying on my church community. The study reveals that online game helps me overcome problems that I faced. I gain many friends in online gaming that I can’t gain through my interaction at school. I can gain self-satisfcation. I was once unworthy and outcast, now find my self-confidence.
