  • ANIMA Indonesian Psychological Journal (Vol. 39, No. 1, 2024)
    Vol. 39 No. 1 (2024)

Welcome to the latest edition of ANIMA Indonesian Psychological Journal, where we continue our commitment to advancing psychological research in Indonesia. This academic journal caters to a wide audience, including academics, practitioners, researchers, teachers, students, professors, healthcare professionals, and organizational leaders from Indonesia and around the world. It is particularly relevant for those interested in the scientific study of individual differences and its application to issues in education, health, and organizational settings.

This issue is particularly significant, not only for its diverse range of topics but also for the important developments and discussions it encompasses in the field of psychology. Firstly, we are pleased to include two Letters to the Editor (LtE) that address critical issues facing the psychological research community today: ethical suitability and the use of open-source tools in research. These letters provide insightful perspectives and underscore the ongoing dialogue about the evolving landscape of psychological research ethics and methodologies.

Secondly, the articles in this issue reflect the current state of our world—a blend of somber realities and hopeful prospects. Our contributors have explored various themes that mirror these dual aspects of our current times. The focus of the journal is to publish original articles that center around empirical research and review papers, particularly pertaining to Indonesian psychological research or Indonesia's contributions to international psychological research and debates.

Thirdly, we are implementing a significant policy change regarding ethical suitability. Recognizing the challenges faced by researchers in obtaining ethical clearance certificates, we are now offering an opportunity for articles without such certificates to still undergo the publication process. This is contingent on the condition that the benefits of the research outweigh the risks and that the studies adhere to the highest standards of research and publication ethics. Additionally, every author is obliged to submit a declaration of research ethics and an academic integrity statement, confirming their adherence to specific Ethical Guidelines. This policy change reflects our dedication to facilitating valuable research while upholding ethical integrity.

In this edition, we extend an invitation to our readers to immerse themselves in a collection of articles that contribute meaningfully to psychological literature and echo the real-life experiences of many during these challenging times. Our aspiration is that this issue not only sparks further research and discussion but also drives meaningful action within the field of psychology.

We are also excited to announce a refinement in our aims, focus, and scope. This journal boasts a diverse array of publication types, ranging from original research and short communications to comprehensive reviews and beyond. We embrace a wide spectrum of research methodologies, including quantitative, qualitative, and mixed method approaches. Significantly, the journal serves as a conduit for articles founded on interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary, and transdisciplinary research, offering special attention and dedicated space to these invaluable contributions. Looking ahead, we remain open to expanding our range of article types, for which we will furnish suitable templates to aid authors in their submissions.

  • ANIMA Indonesian Psychological Journal (Vol. 38, No. 2, 2023)
    Vol. 38 No. 2 (2023)

Indonesia has great potential to contribute to global psychological development with its population of over 278 million people spread across more than 17,000 islands. The national motto "Bhinneka Tunggal Ika" or "Unity in Diversity," highlights the importance of valuing diversity in the country's rich cultural landscape. However, Indonesian researchers face challenges in conducting and publishing internationally recognized scientific research due to language barriers, limited access to global research networks, and a predominant inward focus.

To address these challenges, there are two main initiatives we are promoting. First, we promote bilateral, international, and even global collaborations in psychology research, whether in comprehensive collaborations (covering all aspects from grant proposal to final report) or partial collaborations (focused on specific aspects such as ideas, methods, or manuscript writing).

Secondly, ANIMA Indonesian Psychological Journal has refined its aims and scope to publish original articles, reviews, and other scientific communications that advance psychological science and practices that explore individual differences and societal change in education, health, and organizational settings. The journal welcomes diverse research approaches, recognizing the multidimensional nature of various psychological phenomena.

Our objective is to preserve Indonesia's distinctive viewpoint while incorporating it with global perspectives and standards. Our primary objective is to enhance the expertise and proficiency of our authors, thereby ensuring the ongoing enhancement of their scholarly contributions. To benefit our readers, we offer comprehensive research reports in bilingual Indonesian-English versions. These efforts are in line with our commitment to live up to the motto "Unity in Diversity" by writing scientific pieces that help authors, readers, and other stakeholders advance psychological theory and practice forward together.

  • ANIMA Indonesian Psychological Journal (Vol. 38, No. 1, 2023)
    Vol. 38 No. 1 (2023)

All articles in this issue include authors from 2 countries of origin (Indonesia and United States of America).

Welcome to this edition of ANIMA Indonesian Psychological Journal, which contains 10 fascinating manuscripts in the field of psychology. Alongside 8 research articles, in 38(1) we also prepared 2 editorial articles, regarding Letter to Editor (LtE) and academic integrity in regards to artificial intelligence (AI).

In the Industry 4.0 era, psychology is experiencing very rapid development, including in Indonesia, which has complex dynamics of human behavior and is intertwined with a rich cultural diversity. This requires us to communicate our research and study findings in a concise, communicative, and persuasive manner.

The rise of artificial intelligence, such as ChatGPT, has generated buzz in the research and higher education community, both as a tool and as an author. With this in mind, we are honored to have Professor Ulrich Kozok as a member of the editorial board, who delves into the crucial issue of academic integrity in publishing research and its significance for students and academics both locally and globally.

We have great expectations that readers will find these essays to be not only informative but also inspiring. We thank you in advance for taking the time to read them. You are also urged to share your comments with us through the Letter to Editor (LtE) section, which we have reintroduced as a sort of article in our journal. The purpose of this feature is to express ideas and questions that we hope may stimulate breakthroughs in psychology.

Last but not least, we would like to convey Edwin Adrianta Surijah our most heartfelt gratitude for the remarkable amount of devotion and skill he has shown while serving as the Co-Editor-in-Chief of ANIMA Indonesian Psychological Journal. At the same time , we would like to offer our most heartfelt congratulations to Juneman Abraham on his willingness and commitment to work alongside Ide Bagus Siaputra in the capacity of Co-Editor-in-Chief of ANIMA Indonesian Psychological Journal.

    Sincerely,
Editors of ANIMA Indonesian Psychological Journal.

  • ANIMA Indonesian Psychological Journal (Vol. 37, No. 1, 2022)
    Vol. 37 No. 1 (2022)

ANIMA Indonesian Psychological Journal and the people behind it always strive to achieve our ultimate goal to actively push the advancement of psychological science and scientists in Indonesia. In this noble journey, we encounter various challenges altogether with the contributors of each issue. Balancing between achieving the highest standard and delivering the message from the research output becomes an arduous task that we hope to improve each time.

In this latest issue, we want to address the relevance of the new normal as the prolonged consequence of the COVID-19 outbreak is inevitable. Publishing a special issue would be our ideal goal. However, that goal can sometimes lead to articles being pushed to be published with compromises to be made that may transform the robustness of the output. Therefore, we are proud to introduce highly relevant articles in the current climate of psychological research.

As a starter, we are excited to bring forward important studies, such as gaming addiction and the alcohol and cannabis motives, that will help put this empirical evidence into contextual use in assisting the youth at large. Moreover, a web-based Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to improve self-compassion may illustrate another example of conducting a study and/or clinical service in a world where social distancing is commonly required. A study about internalizing problems and friendship quality complements our theme in this issue supporting the young communities. Additionally, an introductory study about career decision-making apps and their literacy to use the apps further highlights the careful attention to the realm of virtual platforms and possibilities within the psychological research. Lastly, great detail of guidelines for conducting an online experimental study is outlined in one article.

We believe these articles and topics are impactful for the Indonesian community and psychological scientists. We look forward to your contribution to participate in future conversations through the publication in ANIMA Indonesian Psychological Journal future issues.

  • ANIMA Indonesian Psychological Journal (Vol. 36, No. 2, 2021)
    Vol. 36 No. 2 (2021)

Since Volume 35, ANIMA Indonesian Psychological Journal has established itself as the only psychological journal in the world that published its article simultaneously in English and Bahasa Indonesia. Publication in English was intended to improve its global readership and bring forward Indonesian psychology to a far-reaching impact. Meanwhile, the Bahasa Indonesia version was aimed to help more Indonesian scholars and researchers access the knowledge from the published articles. ANIMA Indonesian Psychological Journal’s ultimate goal is to actively push the advancement of psychological science and scientists in Indonesia. Thus, we believe that the bilingual publication will benefit the authors and Indonesian psychology at large.

In its current issue, ANIMA Indonesian Psychological Journal outlines a collaborative effort to set a publication standard/guideline aptly titled "TIM RaDaR" (short for Title, Introduction, Method, Results and Discussion, and References). The guideline is initiated by various psychology-related journals in Indonesia to improve the manuscript’s quality and accelerate the entire publication process. In addition, ANIMA Indonesian Psychological Journal also invited a guest author to write about the significance of ethical clearance as an integral part of the research. This article aligns with various journals’ requirements, including ANIMA Indonesian Psychological Journal, that a submitted manuscript has to declare the obtained ethical clearance. ANIMA Indonesian Psychological Journal upholds academic integrity and publication ethics. We believe that the publication guideline and ethical clearance promote the scientific climate in Indonesian psychology.

Besides, our current issue contains thought-provoking articles discussing Indonesian national identity and leadership in the national private university. In other articles, children material well-being and student subjective well-being were investigated. Lastly, work stress was studied among the Millenials. We believe these articles and topics are highly valuable and insightful for psychological scientists. We look forward to your contribution to participate in the related scientific conversation through the publication in ANIMA Indonesian Psychological Journal future issues.
